AUDITOR CANDIDATE SUSAN MONTEE TESTIFIES IN FAVOR OF PERFORMANCE AUDITS
January 30, 2006
Auditor Susan Montee of Buchanan County submitted written testimony to the State Senate today.
Auditor Montee supports performance audits that “set performance goals and audit the outcome of policies to ensure Missouri taxpayers get the best value for their tax dollars.”
The bill concerning performance audits was presented by Senator Chuck Graham (D-Boone County) as Senate Joint Resolution 32. SJR 32 would expressly direct the Missouri State Auditor to conduct financial and performance audits in fulfillment of the auditor’s constitutional duties. If passed, SJR 32 would be placed on a statewide ballot for approval.
Susan Montee was elected Buchanan County Auditor in 2000. She served the county for two years concurrently with her service on the City Council. In 2002, Auditor Montee was re-elected to a four-year term as County Auditor.
As both a CPA and attorney, if elected, Auditor Montee would be the first State Auditor to hold both accounting and law licenses. Montee will emphasize that she is qualified to lead the Auditor’s office in an era of both financial auditing and performance auditing of taxpayer monies.
